A digestive system is simply an organ system that is responsible for digesting food and moving the nutrients to the bloodstream. It is divided into two general categories, namely complete and incomplete digestive system.

The incomplete digestive system is usually seen in lower organism. An incomplete digestive system has only one opening for both food and feces. This is common in lower invertebrates like jellyfishes and corals.

On the other hand, complete digestive systems have two openings, one for food (mouth) and one for the feces (anus/cloaca). This is common in higher level of animals. These include the following:

  • Humans
  • Fishes
  • Birds
  • Sharks
